My Period?!

I'm fairly certain that I'm currently having my first period postpartum. I've had irregular periods for years now and all of a sudden I'm going to get one almost exactly one month after I give birth?

I'm fighting tooth and nail through this breast feeding business and I cannot even get a delay on the start of my period? Figures.

How long did it take for Aunt Flo to visit you for the first time after giving birth?
 Were you regular right away?

All of this period crap got me thinking... My six week visit is in a couple of weeks and I'll need to start some sort of birth control. I'm thinking of getting an IUD. I've not had one before, so I'm a bit nervous about the experience, but I think it is the best option for us at the moment.

Which birth control option did you choose? Why?

  1. My girls were pretty regular after delivery. I did not BF either of them. I thought for sure with my son it would be delayed since I was exclusively BF him..but nope, one month later...there it was. I am not sure of your whole story, but I have heard those who have had infertility issues should avoid IUD's. So I would research it heavily and talk to your RE or your OB in detail about the risks etc. =)

  2. Ugh, is it possible it's just some breakthrough bleeding and not a true period? How long did you bleed after birth? I bled for 3weeks, and now at 9months pp I still don't have my period, but I'm BFing exclusively and had irregular periods before, so I'm guessing it won't come back until Stella weans. I dunno. My girlfriend here just got her period back at 3months pp while exclusively BFing though. Crazy how everyone's bodies are so different.

We didn't go back on birth control. I don't trust any of the hormones in my body anymore, so we decided to just risk a surprise pregnancy (HIGHLY unlikely we figured) and I'm not worrying about it. I don't know anything about IUDs though, sorry!

  3. I have the same question as Josey, is it possible it's still bleeding from the birth? I was cautioned that if I started to bleed red again after the initial bleeding it was my body's way of telling me to slow down. It's highly unlikely that it's your period so soon after birth while bf'ing.

We're also taking our chances, no birth control for us.

  4. I do not think its your period. Not at all. It is still pp bleeding. There's really almost no way for your period to arrive this early.

I have mirena. I don't love it yet.
